Parenting & Family
Some of you may have heard this quote before, but have you taken the time to wrestle with it as a parent and a family. Too often we are just trying to survive each day rather than chasing the vision or dreams put on our hearts for ourselves and our family.
As a family or spouse how often do you talk to each other about your goals and the dreams you have individually and together? Life is so busy and this task seems so daunting that many of us don’t take the time to be authentic and honest with each other as a family. Instead we’d rather just check off the next item on the to do list, and get through the next day.
I believe that we were meant for more than this. I believe we were put here on earth for a purpose, and your family is here right now for a reason. The only question is will we simply survive or will we endure and thrive? In order to thrive we must do the hard work and have the hard conversations to dig deep and identify what work we need to put in to get us to where we feel called to be.
It’s important for our children to see us as parents and as a family working to accomplish goals and dreams. This experience will instill valuable lessons into their young lives. Here are three benefits to doing this as a parent.
Role Modeling: Children learn through observation and imitation, and we as parents serve as primary role models in their lives. When children see us actively pursuing and working towards goals or dreams, they are more likely to develop a similar mindset and behavior. By witnessing our dedication, perseverance, and commitment, children gain valuable lessons in goal setting, planning, and taking action. They understand that dreams are achievable and that hard work and determination are necessary for success. This positive influence can have a lasting impact on their own aspirations and motivation.
Inspiration and Encouragement: When we share goals or dreams with our children, it can inspire them to explore their own interests and passions. Parents who openly discuss their aspirations create an environment that fosters creativity, ambition, and self-discovery. Seeing us pursue personal goals can ignite a sense of possibility and provide encouragement for them to set their own objectives. It instills a belief that dreams are worth pursuing and that they have the support and guidance necessary to embark on their own journeys.
Building Resilience and Adaptability: Setting goals or pursuing dreams often involves encountering obstacles, setbacks, and failures along the way. By witnessing us navigate challenges and setbacks with resilience, children develop important life skills. They learn the value of persistence, problem-solving, and adaptability in the face of adversity. Seeing us overcome obstacles can help our children understand that setbacks are a natural part of the process and that they can be overcome with determination and a positive mindset. This resilience-building experience equips children with the tools they need to face their own challenges in the future.
In summary, when children see us parents set goals or pursue dreams, they benefit from positive role modeling, inspiration, encouragement, and the development of important life skills. It helps shape their mindset, builds their confidence, and empowers them to set and achieve their own goals.
Instead of just surviving the next day, take the time to reflect on your goals or dreams and put together a plan to be intentional to take steps to achieve them. After that don’t be afraid to take action. Be a family of action, don’t just aim, FIRE! Talk with your children about it, and let them be a part of it. They will be better for it.
Have scary dreams and goals and don’t worry about what others think. Put in the work, endure the challenges and obstacles, and see not only what you and your family accomplish but the impact it has on your children.
On the Farm
The back field is only a week away from its first cut of the season. Amazing to think that this hay is what will sustain the bison over the upcoming winter season.
Only a couple short weeks after the first cut the bison fencing will be installed!
It often seems like our plans and dreams take forever to develop. In reality it comes must faster than we feel.
Delayed gratification is such a lost value in society and America today. I don’t know about you but it’s something I have to regularly work on. I expect and want my children to embrace it, so I sure better work on it myself 😃 .
Exciting days ahead! We will keep you updated.
